FONE2FONE - TUSK

Fone2Fone’s Tusk shares a title with a certain double album about a band collapsing in a Los Angeles mansion. That's where the similarity ends.

This Tusk is landline. Dial tones are drum breaks, answerphone hiss looped until it becomes a texture, a bassline that sounds like it's coming through a wall from the house next door. Where the 1979 version reached for orchestras and studio excess, Fone2Fone reaches for a handset that's been dropped one too many times.

‘Tusk’ here is something blunt and worn, an object that's been well-used rather than cared for. The tracks were recorded on equipment that's (also) collapsing. No rumours. Ha, you didn't! Just a phone ringing in an empty building.

Answer it. Nah.
